Being a New Pet Owner and How to Handle It

Owning a new pet can bring so much joy to your life

Being a new pet owner is fantastic! Adding a new addition to your family is always exciting, but responsibility comes with choosing the right pets for you. There are some changes that you will have to make. To learn more about how to handle being a new pet owner, keep reading! We have some tips that you’ll find beneficial.

How to Pet-Proof Your Home

When bringing a new pet into your home, the transition should be as comfortable as possible. One way to do so is to make sure that your home is clutter-free so that your new pet has the space to run and move around and familiarize themselves with their new home. Focus on removing shoes, wires, or anything that you wouldn’t want your new pet to run over or chew on.

How to Further Familiarize Your Pet With Their Surroundings

After your new pet comes to love their new home, the next step is making sure that they know their neighborhood. Taking them for long walks not only helps with this, but it gives you and your new pet the chance to bond.

How to Feed And Take Care of Your Pet

Each pet differs. Based on their size and breed, nutritional aspects vary. Our veterinarians can provide nutritional advice as part of regular wellness care. As part of your pet’s wellness exam, the veterinarian will discuss basic pet care. MCAH offers wellness care, dental services, training, grooming, microchipping, and more. Also, did you know that we’ll come to you? Yes! Mount Carmel Animal Hospital provides in-home treatments.

We are open 7 days a week and offer emergency care. One of our doctors is available by phone if your pet has an emergency outside of regular clinic hours.
