Veterinary Technician Week MCAH

A veterinary technician works alongside a doctor to care for cats and dogs

October 11th-17th is National Veterinary Technician Week! Typically, we cover topics about pet health, but today we’d like to honor the veterinary techs that help to keep your keep beloved fur babies at their best. Veterinary technicians work long hours in exam rooms, labs, and operating rooms and have vast knowledge, showcasing both the technical and scientific skills needed to treat and care for animals. So much could be said about the excellent work that veterinary techs do. Allow us to go into more detail about our great vet techs and take you through the day in the life of a vet tech.

Our Veterinary Technicians Are:

  • Compassionate
  • Efficient
  • Knowledgeable in dentistry, radiology, nursing care, surgery, phlebotomy, anesthesia, and so much more!

On any given day, a veterinary technician:

  • Assists MCAH’s doctors in surgery
  • Monitors Hospitalized Patients
  • Administers Medications and Treatments
  • Performs Laboratory Tests
  • Documents Patient History
  • Gives Client Information

Ways to Show A Veterinary Tech That You Care!

  1. Treat them to a happy hour, a cup of coffee, a gift card, or a fun face mask
  2. Say “Thank You.” (A handwritten card is always a nice touch).
  3. Let them know when they’re doing a fantastic job! Employee recognition awards make a difference.

Why Recognition Matters

People who work in the veterinarian field are highly empathetic. When you work around adorable cats and dogs, it is a fun environment, but the life of a vet tech is hard work. Just as taking care of people can be highly stressful, the same goes for animals. When you care for ill and anxious animals, it’s not always the most fabulous job. For this reason, it’s vital to make vet techs feel appreciated and valued.

More About National Veterinary Tech Week

In 1993, the National Veterinary Technician Association (NATVA) founded this special week to spread awareness to the public about vet techs’ professionalism in great detail. NATVA also considers this week to be one that should focus on team building and encouragement. Remember that regardless of the industry you work in, employees love to feel appreciated, especially during 2020.
