Offer a Pet as a Present This Holiday Season

Warm a person’s heart by presenting a pet this holiday season

Pets are precious, and the value that they can add to someone’s life is priceless. Imagine the look on a child (or adult’s) face as they embrace a charming canine companion or fantastic feline friend. Offering a pet as a present is a gift that keeps on giving because pets stick with us for years to come. Are you thinking about buying a pet for your loved one this holiday season? Then you’re making a fantastic decision! But there are three things that you should consider. Continue reading to find out more.

Owning a Pet is Not for Everyone

When giving a pet as a gift, you should ask them first. While you may want the new friend to be a surprise, unfortunately, not everyone can have pets. Pets come with a lot of responsibilities, and the person may not be able to handle these responsibilities for several reasons. Discuss your idea with them and see if pet ownership works for them. If you’re familiar with our services, then you can tell them that we offer in-home veterinarian services, if their schedule is too busy. The rule of thumb when giving a pet as a gift is knowing that pet ownership will work for the recipient.

Never Impulsively Buy a Pet

Take the time to research certain breeds of pets and what kind of care they need. Better yet, ask us! We’re the experts. Often, going into a pet store leads to impulsive buys because pets are so charming and cute. It’s hard to walk away! If you know that one of your loved ones has been craving a pet, figure out what kind will be best for them. You may enjoy Chihuahuas, but the recipient may prefer a Rottweiler, so always keep them in mind.

Adopting a pet from a local shelter is another option as well. We do a lot of work with The Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter, Inc. (BARCS). To learn more, click here

Go the Extra Mile

If your loved one is new to pet ownership, then going the extra mile and providing them with a starter kit will be helpful. They’re going to need things like pet food, toys, a litter box for kitties, and other startup items. They’re also going to need your advice, especially if you’re an experienced pet owner. What will also be helpful is referring them to our training courses, so that they can look forward to a smooth transition into pet ownership this holiday season.
